Updated Notification (superseding Notification dated 23.09.2024) Regarding Registration for AIBE for Final Year, Final Semester Candidates Without Backlogs in Previous Semesters, and Candidates Who Have Passed 3-Year or 5-Year LL.B but Have Not Obtained Their Degree, or Those Who Have Passed Out, Obtained Their Degrees but Have Not Enrolled with Any State Bar Council, or Having Enrolled Have Surrendered Their Enrolment Certificate

Dear Candidates,

In compliance with the recent directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Bar Council of India (BCI) rules, this notification provides updated guidelines for registration for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE-XIX) for the following categories of candidates, who must be studying at or have passed out of BCI-recognised Universities and/or BCI-approved Colleges that are affiliated with BCI-recognised Universities:

1. Eligibility of Final-Year Law Students (Without Backlogs):

Candidates currently in their final semester of a 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree course, studying at a BCI-recognised University or a College approved by the BCI and affiliated with a BCI-recognised University, are eligible to register for AIBE. These candidates must have no backlogs from previous semesters to qualify.

2. Eligibility of Law Graduates Who Have Not Obtained Their Degree

LL.B. graduates (3-year or 5-year course) who have passed out from BCI-recognised Universities or a College approved by the BCI and affiliated with a BCI-recognised University, but who have not yet obtained their degree are also eligible to apply for AIBE. This includes graduates who have completed their course and are awaiting degree conferral.

3. Eligibility of Graduates Who Have Obtained Their Degree but Have Not Enrolled or Have Surrendered Their Enrolment Certificates:

Candidates who have obtained their LL.B. degree from a BCI-recognised University or BCI-approved College but have not enrolled with any State Bar Council, as well as those who had enrolled but have surrendered their enrolment certificates, are also eligible to apply.

4. Ineligibility Based on Non-recognition:

Any candidate, whether currently a student or a graduate, who is studying or has passed out from a university or college that is not recognised/approved by the Bar Council of India, will not be eligible to appear for AIBE. It is the responsibility of the candidates to ensure their educational institution is duly recognised by the BCI.

Candidates fulfilling these conditions can register for AIBE-XIX starting from 25th September 2024. The following undertaking and self-attested, scanned documentation must be submitted during registration.

Undertaking Regarding AIBE Eligibility for Final-Year Law Students and Candidates Without Enrolment Certificates

1. I am a final-year, final-semester law student with no backlogs from previous semesters. I am currently enrolled in a BCI-recognised University or College approved by the BCI and affiliated with a BCI-recognised University.

2. I have completed my final semester exams, with no backlogs, and am awaiting my final results. I studied at a BCI-recognised University or College approved by the BCI and affiliated with a BCI-recognised University.

OR

3. I am a law graduate who has not yet enrolled with a State Bar Council. I have/have not obtained my LL.B degree (strike-off whichever is not applicable) from a BCI-recognised University or College approved by the BCI and affiliated with a BCI-recognised University.

4. I am a law graduate currently employed in _________________________________________________________. (mention job/service) and have either not enrolled or surrendered my enrolment due to my employment. I understand that if I pass AIBE, I will be eligible for enrolment for six months. After this period, I will need to reappear for AIBE to continue practicing law.

I also undertake to:

- Confirm that my university or college is recognised/approved by the Bar Council of India and that I have pursued or completed my LL.B degree from a BCI-recognised institution.

- Submit accurate and truthful information concerning my current academic status or enrollment status with the State Bar Council, as applicable.

- Comply with the conditions outlined for my category and fully adhere to the process established by the Bar Council of India for maintaining the integrity and professional standards of the legal profession.

I further confirm that I understand the eligibility criteria and agree to comply with all instructions and regulations as indicated by the Bar Council of India. I acknowledge that intimation of my case will be provided to the Bar Council of India for the purpose of maintaining transparency and proper records.

I declare that all the information furnished by me in this undertaking is true to the best of my knowledge and belief. I understand that providing any false information or non-compliance with the criteria mentioned, including providing information about a non-recognised university or non-approved college, may result in disqualification from the AIBE or withdrawal of eligibility for enrollment.

- For the 3-year LL.B degree course: marksheets of Semester-I to Semester-V.

- For the 5-year integrated LL.B degree course: marksheets of Semester-I to Semester-IX.

2. Law graduates who have passed their LL.B course but have not yet obtained their degree must submit their self-attested and scanned (not clicked from mobile) marksheets. This includes:

- For the 3-year LL.B degree course: marksheets of Semester-I to Semester-VI.

- For the 5-year integrated LL.B degree course: marksheets of Semester-I to Semester-X.
